We had to wait ‘til Friday before we could try givin’ them boys a call. I knew it required getting way deep into somethin’ heavy, and I couldn’t be missing any more of my classes. School district had been pretty lenient, all things considered. Especially after that incident in Towaoc. But ain’t no one can teach math and physics gonna come look for employment out here, so I had me a bit of good hard job security in that sense. Still, I didn’t need to push it any closer to the edge. So we waited ‘til Friday, like the responsible, civic minded citizens that the both of us are.
Same schedule as last time. First; Basketball. Off-season home scrimmage against Telluride. JV and varsity, boys and girls both. Them entitled and delicate little snow flowers got a proper beat down. We ain’t got no Samoan, but we got kiddos straight off the farm who play full contact. Lotta good fouls. Ref only called about half of ‘em. Helluva game night. Visiting parents were puttin’ down kerchiefs on the bleachers before they sat. Uncle Dave and I slashed some tires on a coupla Audis parked outside the gym on our way out. Smitty bought us two sixers when he found out why he got that surprise business at his garage later that night. Good fuckin’ times, man. And profitable. For everyone in the lower tax brackets anyway.
